What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts that emphasizes a natural approach to health and wellness. Doctors of chiropractic are often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians.

Chiropractors offer conservative treatments and therapies that do not involve drugs or surgery. Doctors of chiropractic often perform physical examinations, neurological examinations, orthopedic examinations, spine exams, and postural analysis in order to better understand the needs of each patient. The most common form of treatment that chiropractors use is known as “spine manipulations,” or “chiropractic adjustments.”

The Goal of Chiropractic Care Is To Restore Health By:

  • Removing nerve pressure and interference (vertebral subluxations)
  • Reestablishing proper posture and bone alignment
  • Rehabilitating chronically weak muscles
  • Restoring normal body mechanics and function

Is Chiropractic Treatment Safe?

Although there are risks associated with all branches of health care, chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest methods to correct low back pain, whiplash injuries after car accidents, and other muscle injuries. Because chiropractic care does not utilize either drugs or surgery, the inherent risks associated with medications and surgery is not a part of the equation. A skilled chiropractor will select the safest, most effective treatment for the needs of each patient.

While chiropractic care is safe for the majority of individuals, please arrange a consultation with your chiropractic physician to determine whether chiropractic treatment is the safest and best option for your specific situation. If you have health care concerns, please be sure to discuss them with your chiropractor.

Who Are Our Doctors?

Dr. Kemp B. Kirk and Dr. Rachelle G. Kirk are a husband and wife team of chiropractors. Both doctors graduated with honors from Sherman College of Chiropractic in 2001. In 2002 they were married and moved to Flagler County where they established Back In Action Chiropractors, Co. Inc. Since that time, they have started a family and have expanded upon their chiropractic training by attending additional post doctoral classes at Palmer College of Chiropractic's Florida campus. They are also members of the Florida Chiropractic Association.

Back In Action Chiropractors has been awarded the title of “Best Around Chiropractor” multiple times through the News-Tribune Reader’s Choice Awards. In the summer of 2011 Back In Action Chiropractors moved to their new location in beautiful Flagler Beach across from the Farmer’s Market. Their Flagler Beach chiropractic clinic has been involved with First Friday community events and other Flagler Beach activities. The doctors wish to help the Flagler County community by offering natural pain relief for headaches, back pain, sciatica, and sports injuries in the form of gentle chiropractic treatment.

The chiropractors at Back In Action Chiropractors each have over 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical experience from their time spent in chiropractic school. Their course of study has been fully approved by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

An adjustment performed by a chiropractor is a precise movement in the proper direction that returns spine function and motion back to normal.

The adjustment is used on a joint that is fixated (or "stuck") and will no longer move properly. Once the bone in the spine (or other joint) is returned to the proper position, the surrounding nerves, ligaments, tendons, and muscles will begin to heal properly.

Chiropractic adjustments and joint manipulations are primarily used for correcting joints in the spine, but can be applied to many other joints in the body. All joints function more effectively when properly aligned.

Education Requirements for Chiropractors:

According to the American Chiropractic Association: "Educational requirements for doctors of chiropractic are among the most stringent of any of the health care professions. Doctors of chiropractic ... undergo a rigorous education in the healing sciences, similar to that of medical doctors. In some areas, such as anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, nutrition and public health, they receive more intensive education than their MD counterparts."
